Mitsuhashi-kun: Thank you.
As this is your first photobook, please tell us first about its highlights.
Mitsuhashi-kun: For this work, we took on photographs that are genuinely “as-is,” without applying any of the digital corrections, so-called retouching, that have become commonplace today.
That is amazing. What was the intention behind it?
Mitsuhashi-kun: If you just hear “unretouched,” it may not sound like a big deal, but until now I had done gravure shoots somewhere with the reassurance that “it will be erased anyway.” However, shooting with the premise of no editing whatsoever gave me a completely different kind of tension, and I was able to work with even greater care over expressions and poses.
What kind of work is it?
Mitsuhashi-kun.
Mitsuhashi-kun: I do not know if I should say this, but things that naturally exist, like wrinkles, bruises, and the things used to hide those things (laughs), are visible. But the work itself was shot in a very stylish and cute way. The costumes and makeup have a different feel from before, but it properly shows what should be shown, and I think it has real contrast.
When and where did you shoot it?
Mitsuhashi-kun: We shot it in Guam last December. The sea and sunsets were beautiful, and I spent several days honestly thinking that I did not want to go home for a while.
Was there a reason you were particular about making it unretouched this time?
Mitsuhashi-kun: A first photobook is, literally, the only one in the world. I thought it should be as-is because I want everyone to enjoy it as much as possible, and because someday, whether it is my children, parents, or grandchildren, I want them to keep looking at it with pride. Also, AI technology has been amazing lately, and in this age when lies are increasingly recognized as truth, when I thought that people themselves might eventually no longer be needed, I felt that the only thing that can stand up to lies is truth without limit. That may sound exaggerated (laughs).
Do you have any stories from the shoot?
Mitsuhashi-kun: Well, if I had to name one, it would be that my manager came down with a high fever just before it and could not come (laughs).
Mitsuhashi-kun: Above all, I want many more people to know who I am! I have worked hard in my studies as well, but I will broaden the range of my gravure and talent activities and take on a variety of challenges.
Please tell us about your goals going forward.
Mitsuhashi-kun: I will continue to work hard as a pharmacist, but I also want to broaden the scope of my talent activities, including gravure and variety shows, and take on new challenges.
