Atsuko Maeda’s “Final Photobook” Beste Unveils Its Cover and Takes On Her Boldest Exposure Yet, With “Adult Love” as Its Theme

Her First Photobook in Approximately 14 Years: Cover Unveiled

Atsuko Maeda was called AKB48’s “absolute center,” won popularity as a nationally beloved idol who symbolized an era, and is now forging a new path as an actor.

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of her entertainment career. Her memorial photobook, Atsuko Maeda Photobook Beste (pronounced “Beste”), which she says will be her last, will go on sale February 13. It is her first photobook since 2012, approximately 14 years ago.

Vienna, Austria, in Central Europe, was selected as the location. The entire book was carefully photographed on location while moving through a city alive with history, art, and music. With “adult love” for women in their 30s as its theme, it captures in Vienna’s light her dignified beauty and the wistful expressions of a woman wavering between dreamlike time with the person she loves and reality.

“I Hope People Will Immerse Themselves Fully in Adult Love”

The theme of this work is “adult love.” It aims to create an intimate, delicate world that makes readers think, “I would like to experience a love like this,” as two people spend time alone with someone they care for.

Maeda commented: “I hope that, while looking through the photobook, people will immerse themselves fully in adult love. During the shoot, I myself came to want someone I love. Vienna was a wonderful city that made my fantasies grow: ‘I want to come here with someone I love,’ and ‘If someone brought me to a place like this, I would definitely fall for them.’”

True to her words, “As my final photobook, I want to give it everything I have without regrets,” its highlights include wistful, sensuous expressions and a challenge to bolder exposure than in her previous photobooks.

Born July 10, 1991, in Chiba Prefecture. She debuted as a first-generation member of AKB48 in 2005 and took the stage at the AKB48 Theater. From the group’s indie debut in 2006, she served as center for about five years, gaining nationwide popularity as its “absolute center.” Since graduating from the group in 2012, she has continued to express herself as an actor. In 2025, she marked the 20th anniversary of her entertainment career.
