Ayano Sumida Releases Vietnam-Shot Photobook Kasumisou

Her self-chosen title draws on baby’s breath and the shoot’s floral motifs. The print release has a separate DVD package and launch events in Tokyo and Osaka.

Why she chose Kasumisou

In the interview accompanying the publisher’s announcement, Sumida explains that the title grew out of the photographs rather than preceding them. Floral clothing, a locally made ao dai and a bath scattered with rose petals gave her the idea of naming the collection after her favorite flower, baby’s breath—kasumisou in Japanese.

She chose three characters that echo that reading while incorporating a character from her surname. Sumida says the title also carries her feelings toward the work and the feelings readers bring to it.

The finished cover makes the floral connection visible through black sheer fabric embroidered with colorful flowers. Two accompanying preview photographs offer different settings: a blue crocheted bikini top and white denim shorts against a gray block wall, and a reclining portrait in a beaded outfit beside a bedside lamp.

One Publishing presents the collection as a more revealing follow-up to her previous photobook. In her supplied comments, Sumida also describes placing greater emphasis on photographs of her back. These are the publisher’s introduction and her release comments, rather than a hands-on assessment of the complete book.

Standard book or DVD package?

The ¥3,960 standard edition is the print photobook. A separate special version sold through BOMB Idol Kobo bundles the book with a behind-the-scenes DVD from the Vietnam shoot, including footage of outfits not shown in its pages.

The DVD is not an extra included with every ordinary copy. The announcement does not specify the special package’s price or the disc’s runtime.
