Rina Yamamoto’s first photobook brings two parts of her public work into the same volume: a three-day Miyako Island shoot that includes her first swimsuit gravure, and a practical beauty section covering the routines and products she uses herself. Kodansha will publish the still-tentatively titled book on October 28, 2026.

The location photographs move through the beach, a pool, bedroom and bathroom, with outfits made for the book. Yamamoto said the swimsuit session began with considerable nerves, but the Miyako Island setting and support from the crew helped her relax as the shoot continued.

Her favorite image was not on the original schedule. After the planned photography had finished, a conversation during a barbecue led the team back to the pool at night. Yamamoto entered the water fully clothed, with the pool’s light used for the resulting photograph.

The lighting and the glow of the pool lit my face beautifully, and it turned into a really good picture. It became my favorite shot of all.

Beauty beyond the location shoot

The book also documents Yamamoto’s approach to makeup, skincare and body care. She introduces favorite cosmetics, personal belongings and parts of her routine in her own words. That material is not presented as an add-on to the photographs: it is one of the book’s central ideas.

I packed everything about who I am now into it. I show the things I use for beauty, body care, skincare and makeup, areas I am very particular about.

Yamamoto said she worked specifically on conditioning for the swimsuit shoot. She also wanted the book to preserve expressions and fashion that do not usually appear in her broadcasting work or on social media.
