Sango brings Kumiko Takeda back to photobooks after a 23-year interval. Kodansha will release the volume on September 9, 2026, with photographs by ND CHOW.

Kumiko Takeda Revisits Her Shell-Bikini Image in Sango
The Kodansha release arrives September 9, followed by a SHIBUYA TSUTAYA handover event during Takeda's visit from San Diego.

The source frames the book’s central image as a coral nude, a successor to the shell-bikini photograph associated with Takeda’s earlier gravure career. Kodansha’s first announcement also says the book includes images that pay homage to her earlier photobooks.
The release also brings Takeda from her home in San Diego to Japan. A handover event is scheduled for September 12 at 1:30 p.m. on the eighth floor of SHIBUYA TSUTAYA; applications and participation details are available on the event page. Advance photographs from the book also appear in the sealed insert of the August 7 issue of FRIDAY.
Takeda was born in Aichi Prefecture and made her acting debut in the 1982 film High Teen Boogie. She also worked as a singer and published a series of photobooks before moving to the United States in 1999.
